KERNSTOWN, Va. – Men's cross country placed 18th Saturday morning at the Hornet Harrier/Commonwealth Challenge hosted by Shenandoah University. UVa-Wise finished with a total time of 1:59:49 and averaged a pace of 24:32 at Kernstown Battlefield.
Freshman Austin Yeary led the Cavalier pack in 71st place with a time of 21:23. Senior Tanner Redginer posted a time of 22:09 as the only other Cavalier to crack a top-100 finish in the race.
Freshman Peyton Salyer followed with a time of 23:45 in the 6K. Junior Ryan Frederick and senior Ciaran Wheatley rounded out the Cavalier men registering times just two minutes apart at 25:15 and 27:15, respectively.
Head coach Sarah Smith Carlson's team will be back on the road in two weeks on Saturday, Oct. 11 at the Royals XC Challenge hosted by Queens (N.C.) in Charlotte, North Carolina.
