WISE - - Cavalier softball returns home to face the Mountain Lions of Concord University for the final time in the regular season. UVa-Wise picked up a doubleheader sweep on the road against Concord last Wednesday.

- UVa-Wise powered through their longest game of the season in a 12-inning battle against Concord University as sophomore Kaylee Jones blasted her first career grand slam in the top of the 12th frame to aid the Cavs to an 8-5 victory over the Mountain before knocking another homer to left field in game two for her fifth of the season. The second baseman is recording a .310 batting average, the third highest on the team, while her .595 slugging percentage this season is ninth in the conference.
- Sophomore Kailyn Spencer improved to 5-4 in the circle this season as the Cavs edged Concord in the game two win Wednesday as she struck out four in a complete game effort as she currently claims a 3.16 earned run average to date. The right hander also helped herself at the plate going 2-for-4 and recording her fourth home run of the campaign at Concord.
- Defensively, the Cavs are ninth in the league in fielding (.940) with 559 putouts and 269 assists, third most in the league.
- Senior Shannon Bennett owns one of the best batting averages in the league (9th) and leads her team batting .376 so far this season. The left fielder has a team-high 32 hits and nine multi-hit games this year, recording a hit in nine of her last ten games and is currently on a team-leading three game hitting streak along with Jones and fellow senior Ava Hockey.
- As a team, UVa-Wise is batting .283 at the plate and is tied for first in the league in doubles (45), triples (9), and is first in the league in home runs (23) so far this campaign.
Notes on Concord University
- Concord visits Wise following a 3-1 weekend for the Mountain Lions as they picked up victories in game one against West Liberty Saturday afternoon and a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit on Sunday. Concord now holds a 22-15 overall record and a 10-8 mark in the Mountain East, tying Charleston for third in the South Division.
- Jenna Witt leads the conference with her .427 batting average so far this season while her .645 slugging percentage puts her among league leaders in the fifth spot. Witt's 47 hits are the most in the Mountain East so far this season as the junior is on a thirteen-game hitting streak recording a hit in all but three games this season.
- Freshman Laura Thompson is recording a .404 batting average to date ranking her third in the league while her .496 on base percentage and 36 runs scored to date place her atop both categories in the conference.
- Against MEC opponents, sophomore Cartney Schoolcraft claims a 1.83 earned run average with five wins across 59 1/3 innings in the circle. Junior Darby Fitzpatrick is maintaining a 2.03 ERA against league teams so far this season.
- The Mountain Lions are second in the conference with a .323 overall batting average and sit atop the league in runs scored (185), hits (298), and runs batted in (157).
- Concord returns home for an eight-game stretch following the team's doubleheader against the Cavs Wednesday evening.
