BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - - UVa-Wise goalie Elsa Girardo has been named Mountain East Conference Defensive Player of the Week for her performance in the Cavaliers' pair of wins last week. The junior from Alexandria, Va. finished with 18 saves during the week as UVa-Wise posted an 18-1 win over West Virginia Wesleyan before upending Shepherd 15-10 as the program pushed its conference winning streak to 11 consecutive games.

The weekly award is the first of Girardo's career who has been in goal for all 10 games the Cavs have played this spring.

On the year, the goalie is stopping 41.1 percent of shot attempts while having tallied 88 saves.

UVa-Wise will be back in action Friday at Wheeling Jesuit when the team looks to take sole possession of first place in the league.
