It would be short lived as the Cavs put together their best inning of the game at the plate. Jordon Turner singled to lead off the third inning and moved to second on a base hit by Brock Smith. Following a sacrifice bunt by Brett Roberts, Tyler Blaum tied the game with a two-run single.
Stout would get out of the inning by getting consecutive fly outs to keep the game tied. The left-hander would be challenged just once more in the game as UVa-Wise loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning.
Again, Stout would be up to the task as he struck out back-to-back hitters to keep the score tied.
FSU would score the game winning run when Jordan Sanders ground ball in the infield would turn into an error with two outs in the home seventh allowing pinch runner Alex Banko to scamper home from second base with the game-winning run.
Duncan was the tough luck loser as he dropped his first decision of the year while Stout moved to 4-1 win the win.
Turner had two hits for UVa-Wise while FSU was paced by Musgrove's two hits. They were the only players in the game to record multiple hits.
Game two saw the Falcons race out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play.
FSU scored an unearned run in the second inning. After Cavalier starter Landon Faulkner struck out the first two hitters of the frame, an error allowed the inning to continue and the hosts cashed in on a Kevin Ayala base hit.
An inning later, Musgrove and Tyler Hill would launch solo homers to put the Falcons in front 3-0.
Junior Will Brown would keep UVa-Wise off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when Cagle began his late game heroics.
The Cavs scored their first run of the game when Brett Yates came home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Tristan Peccerelli. Following a base hit by Ethan Fletcher, Brown was lifted for the game as Cagle stepped to the plate representing the go-ahead run.
The junior proceeded to launch his third homer of the season to give UVa-Wise its first lead of the day at 4-3.
Faulkner would retire the first two men in the sixth before a two-out triple ended his day. Nate Thompson would enter in relief and strike out the final batter of the inning to send his team to the seventh holding a one run lead.
In the seventh, the Cavs put the game out of reach. Roberts walked to lead off the inning before Yates doubled him to third. FSU then elected to intentionally walk David Thomas to setup the double play only to see Peccerelli line a single to left field allowing Roberts to score making it a 5-3 game.
Following a Fletcher sacrifice fly, the game stood at 6-3 when Cagle entered the box. The switch hitter then delivered his second three-run blast of the game. Cagle finished the game 2-for-4 with a career-high six RBI to go with his two homers.
Faulkner fanned a career-best nine while allowing just two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings of work. Thompson earned his fourth save of 2019 by allowing a run over 1 1/3 innings of work.
Thomas paced an 11-hit effort for the Cavs with a 3-for-3 game at the plate, Yates finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored while Fletcher went 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI.
