WISE - - Cavalier softball begins the road portion of its Mountain East Conference schedule this weekend with inclement weather pushing the doubleheader against Charleston to Friday before the Cavs travel to Institute, West Virginia to play West Virginia State Saturday afternoon. First pitch against the Golden Eagles is slated for 3 p.m. Friday. UVa-Wise's doubleheader against the Yellow Jackets is set to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.

About UVa-Wise

-        The Cavaliers are on a five-game win streak heading into this weekend's games claiming a 5-3 league record and a third place rank in South Division standings. UVa-Wise began the streak in a comeback game two win over King University last week.

-        UVa-Wise is second in the league in slugging percentage (.480) and third in the league in on base percentage (.367).

-        Senior Shannon Bennett continues to lead her team and is fourth in the conference in batting average at .409 and accounts for the most hits on the team with 27 to date. Bennett has registered a hit in each of the Cavs last six games with a pair of multi-hit games and a .429 on base percentage.

-        Freshman pitcher Sydney Collins improved to 3-1 this season after earning back-to-back wins last weekend allowing 10 hits and four runs across 14 innings inside the circle. At the plate, the right hander added three hits, one run, and an RBI against the Pioneers and Bobcats.

-        Junior Taylor Creasey's four triples this season leads the Cavs and is tied for first in the league for the most triples to date. The center fielder has recorded 21 hits, 12 runs, and eight RBI's so far this season and is posting a .434 on base percentage and a .641 slugging percentage and has registered a hit in each of the Cavs last six games.

-        Sophomore Alexis Miles leads UVa-Wise in several categories this season including RBI (18) and runs (16) while tallying 22 hits, including a team-high five home runs. Miles is registering a .324 batting average with eight doubles this year.

Notes on University of Charleston

-        Charleston enters into Friday's games on a four-game win streak, picking up a pair of league wins over Wheeling Jesuit last Sunday before a non-conference doubleheader sweep of West Virginia Tech Tuesday afternoon.

-        Junior Haleigh Christopher is tied for third in the MEC with 21 RBI and has accumulated five home runs to date.

-        Sophomore Kendal Marshall has a team-high .353 batting average and 30 hits along with 11 runs and 13 RBI across 25 starts.

-        Junior Carlee Lucas holds a team-best 2.80 ERA with a 4-4 record inside the circle. Freshman Carly Turner is posting a 3.07 ERA to date with a 7-6 mark inside the circle, including three shutouts, and is second in the league in strike outs (73) twirling 73 innings so far this season.

-        Charleston is currently placed fourth in South Division standings.

Notes on West Virginia State University

-        The Yellow Jackets will play two games against Concord University Friday afternoon before hosting the Cavaliers Saturday.

-        West Virginia State has lost just two games since beginning the Mountain East Conference portion of their schedule and is now 6-2 in the league.

-        Senior Brittany Allison leads her team in numerous categories including batting average (.426), runs (18), RBI (19) and has added seven home runs. Her .426 batting average is third in the conference while teammate freshman Kasey Murphy is posting a league-high .474 batting average.

-        Emily Thompson's 1.06 ERA is a conference-best with the senior posting a 4-2 record inside the circle and giving up just nine runs across 39 2/3 innings pitched.

-        West Virginia State is currently ranked second in South Division standings.
