WISE - - Cavalier softball resumes Mountain East Conference play at home this weekend after splitting a non-conference doubleheader with King University Wednesday. Co-Head Coaches Karen Bitter and Nick Bitter's team will take on the Glenville State Pioneers Saturday with first pitch slated for noon. UVa-Wise will return to Cavalier field for a pair of games against West Virginia Wesleyan College Sunday with game one beginning at 1 p.m. Emily Hale, who joined the team through Team IMPACT this past fall, will throw the first pitch at Saturday's game.

About UVa-Wise
·       Sophomore Alexis Miles recorded her second career grand slam, first of the campaign, in a 6-3 game two win for a non-conference doubleheader split against King University Wednesday afternoon. Miles is now the only Cavalier with double-digit RBI's recording 16 to date and leads the team with four home runs.
·       Junior right handed pitcher Raychel Lapallo improved to 3-6 with her game two win over the Tornado Wednesday as she and sophomore pitcher Kailyn Spencer now each have three wins inside the circle this season.
·       Senior Shannon Bennett's .385 batting average leads the Cavaliers as she and Miles are tied with a team-best 20 hits.
·       Junior Taylor Creasey recorded her second home run of the season on a solo shot in the Cavaliers 6-3 victory over King. So far this year, Creasey has notched 15 hits with four doubles, three triples, two homeruns, and is 2-for-2 in stolen base attempts.
·       Sophomores Casey Chambers and Kaylee Jones have also been big contributors for the Cavs as Chambers is hitting .317 on the year while Jones has registered 17 hits and 11 runs to date. Chambers and junior Nikki Smith have each tallied 13 hits while Smith has scored 10 runs so far this season.
·       UVa-Wise will look to get back in the win column in conference play after falling to 1-3 in the opening weekend with a split against the University of Charleston before dropping two to West Virginia State.
·       The Cavs will begin their road portion of the conference schedule next weekend with games against West Virginia State and Charleston.
Notes on Glenville State College
·       The Pioneers enter into Saturday's doubleheader following a Wednesday afternoon split with non-conference opponent West Virginia Tech. Glenville State posted a game-high 12 hits and scored a season-best 10 runs in the 10-8 game one victory.
·       Sophomore pitcher Celina Maberto improved to 3-6 with her game one victory this past week and holds a 4.30 ERA with one shutout in 55 1/3 innings inside the circle.
·       Freshman Karra Smith leads her team with a .463 batting average. The infielder sits atop several categories for the Pioneers, scoring a team-high 13 runs and leads the team with 25 hits and 19 RBI.
·       Glenville State holds a 1-3 league record following a split against Fairmont State University and a pair of losses to Shepherd last weekend.
Notes on West Virginia Wesleyan College
·       West Virginia Wesleyan picked up a pair of wins Tuesday afternoon sweeping Alderson Broaddus University by scores of 7-3 and 4-2.
·       Sophomore Kennedy Cowart holds the highest batting average on the team at .385 and has recorded a team-high 20 hits on 52 at-bats so far this season.
·       Seven Bobcats are recording double-digit hits while freshman Brooke Clark is the only Wesleyan player with double-figure runs posting a team-high 12. Freshman Kiley Turner leads the team with 15 RBI while freshman Destiny Alvarado has 10, each posting 16 hits this season while Turner has a team-high four home runs.
·       Freshman pitcher Hannah Hudson improved to 4-3 with her win over Alderson Broaddus this week. Hudson claims a 2.93 ERA pitching 57 1/3 innings inside the circle this season.
·       The Bobcats come to Wise with a 1-3 MEC record following a split against Shepherd University and back-to-back losses to Fairmont State last weekend.
Series History
·       UVa-Wise leads the all-time series against Glenville State College, 14-2. Last season, UVa-Wise picked up its final two wins of the 2018 campaign against the Pioneers by scores of 8-0 and 17-0.
·       West Virginia Wesleyan College leads the all-time series against UVa-Wise, 12-4. The Cavs fell in the final two regular season games against the Bobcats by scores of 5-3 and 2-0. UVa-Wise ended their postseason run in a 3-2 loss to Wesleyan last May.
