BRISTOL, Tenn. - - Kevin Barbato's two-run double in the home sixth proved to be the difference Sunday as host King University claimed a 10-8 victory over UVa-Wise.
UVa-Wise (0-3) built a 4-0 lead after a half inning thanks to an RBI single off the bat of Tristan Peccerelli, a two-run double by Brock Smith and a run-scoring single by Jordon Turner.
King (3-3) responded with a pair of runs in the home half of the inning before Peccerelli's second run-scoring hit of the day made it 5-2 heading to the home second.
The Tornado tied the game in the bottom of the second with the final two runs coming on a two-run homer by Tony Valdes.
The seesaw affair continued as Hank Banner's team pushed across two runs in the top of the third as Brett Yates and Tyler Blaum each had an RBI.
Valdes would make it a one run affair on an RBI single before a two-run homer by Rob Sari gave King an 8-7 lead after four innings of play.
Brock Smith tied the game in the top of the sixth on a RBI double to plate Peccerelli only to see Kevin Barbato double home two runs in the home sixth to post the 10-8 win.
The Cavaliers tallied 10 hits in the loss, Peccerelli led the way by going 3-for-3 while Blaum, Smith and Turner had two hits each.
Next up, UVa-Wise will travel to Southern Wesleyan for a three-game set next weekend. The series will begin Friday with a nine inning game before a pair of seven inning contests conclude the series Saturay.
