Cavaliers Down King on the Road

BRISTOL, Tenn. – Women's tennis cruised by King University Saturday afternoon in a 6-1 win in Bristol. UVa-Wise won two doubles matches to gain a 1-0 advantage before winning six singles matches to secure the victory over the Tornado.

At doubles for UVa-Wise (4-2), sophomores Liza Akimenko and Katya Akimenko swept their opponents, 6-0, at No. 1 while senior Aya Melhem and sophomore Grace Hall gave up just one game in a 6-1 defeat of King's Isla Bell and Murphy Harr at No. 2 doubles.

Liza Akimenko earned another win at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-0, while Katya Akimenko won 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. At No. 3, Melhem defeated King's Anna Mincey in a tiebreaker set, 6-0, 5-7, 1-0(11-9). Hall secured another singles win for the Cavs at No. 4, 6-3, 6-2, while freshman Megan Harwood posted an 8-2 victory at No. 5 singles.

Head coach Danny Rowland's team will conclude the fall season tomorrow with a 10 a.m. match against Lees-McRae College at Bristol Indoor Courts.
