MARS HILL, N.C. - - Women's tennis lost in a close match against Mars Hill University Saturday afternoon, 4-3.

The Cavaliers (0-3) fell in all three doubles matches as the freshman duo Katya Akimenko and Liza Akimenko were defeated 6-4 at the No. 1 doubles position. At the No. 2 spot, junior Aya Melhem and freshman Grace Hall fell, 6-4, to Mars Hill's Haley Steinkemp and Evan Lake. Senior Montana Hill and freshman Lillian Morris were upset at the No. 3 doubles spot with a 6-4 loss to the Lions' Sophia Pelaez and Kat Horner.

In singles play, Liza Akimenko was at the No. 1 spot with a 6-0, 6-3 win over the Lions' Lake. At No. 2, Katya Akimenko posted another win for the Cavs with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Mars Hill's Launay. Melhem won her match at the No. 3 position, 5-7, 4-0 over the Lions' Pelaez. Hall fell at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-2, against Mars Hill's Victoria Franklin while Hill dropped her match at the number five position, 6-2, 6-1, to the Lion's Steinkemp. At the No. 6 spot, freshman Olivia Dishner was outlasted by Mars Hill's Horner, 6-2, 6-4.

UVa-Wise will now play Ferrum College at 8 a.m. on Oct. 6 on the road.
