Box Score PUEBLO, Colo. - - UVa-Wise built an 8-4 halftime lead en route to a 16-12 non-conference women's lacrosse win at Colorado State – Pueblo Wednesday. In the win, Kristin Gobbi and Rachel Cole scored three goals each as the Cavaliers improved to 3-1 on the season.
UVa-Wise scored the game's first six goals as Sydney Steinberg, Gobbi, Cole, Jessica Apgar, Hannah Marshall and Samantha Hill each scored to build the six-goal advantage mid-way through the first half.
The ThunderWolves (1-1) would score four of the half's final six goals to enter intermission trailing 8-4.
The early lead proved to be too much to overcome as the Cavs would lead by no fewer than four goals at any point in the second half.
Apgar, Marshall and Charlotte Hess had four groundballs each while Melanie Reilly posted 21 saves in goal to lead UVa-Wise.
With the win, the Cavs are now 1-1 on their Spring Break Trip to the Rocky Mountains. Meghan Dennehy's team will wrap up the trip on Thursday against the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. First draw is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern from Colorado Springs, Colo.
