Box Score WISE - - Women's tennis dropped their conference match against the University of Charleston, 9-0, on Tuesday. The Cavs are now 2-3 in conference match-ups and 3-6 on the season.
Senior Daria Tyshchenko and sophomore Aya Melhem managed to win three games at the No. 1 doubles spot, but were outlasted by Charleston's Katie Swann and Kristine Gegeshidze, 8-3. At the No. 2 position, sophomore Taylor Carter and junior Mackenzie Lawson fell to Elise Edwards and Silvana Slusarciuc of Charleston by a score of 8-1. Junior Montana Hill and senior Serena Burgess played at No. 3 for the Cavs as they were swept, 8-0, by Alize Uyttenhove and Bridget Dillon of Charleston.
At No. 1 singles, Tyshchenko was able to win two games in each set before falling to the Golden Eagles' Swann, 6-2, 6-2. Melhem was outlasted at the No. 2 singles position by Charleston's Gegeshidze, 6-1, 6-2. Carter won two games in the first set, but was unable to get the victory at the No. 3 spot as she fell, 6-2, 6-0, to Edwards of Charleston. At the No. 4 position, Lawson battled it out against Charleston's Slusarciuc as the Cavalier was defeated, 6-2, 6-4. Burgess was outlasted at number five as she fell to Uyttenhove of Charleston, 6-1, 6-0 while Hill dropped her match at the No. 6 spot against the Golden Eagles' Guthrie, 6-2, 6-0.
The Cavaliers will play again on Saturday, Sept. 30, at noon against West Liberty University in West Liberty, W. Va.
