Box Score WISE – UVa-Wise women's tennis swept Concord University, 9-0, Wednesday afternoon. The Cavs are now 2-0 in the conference and 3-3 on the season.
The Cavs dominated the match as sophomore Taylor Carter and junior Mackenzie Lawson teamed up at the No. 1 doubles spot, earning an 8-5 victory over Concord's Taylor Dixon and Brook King. At the No. 2 position, seniors Daria Tyshchenko and Serena Burgess swept the Mountain Lions' Amy Ahern and Emily Hendricks, 8-0, while sophomore Aya Melhem and freshman Gabrielle Beville won at the No. 3 spot by an identical score of 8-0.
At the No. 1 singles position, Melhem blanked Concord's Dixon, 6-0, 6-0. Carter only allowed one game by her opponent at the No. 2 spot as she defeated the Mountain Lions' King, 6-1, 6-0. The Cavs continued to control the match as both Lawson and Burgess swept their opponents, 6-0, 6-0, at the third and fourth positions, respectively. Junior Montana Hill outlasted her opponent at the No. 5 position, winning the match over Concord's Lelia Suydam, 6-0, 6-1. Beville was able to get the victory at the No. 6 spot as she won her match, 6-0, 6-1.
Cavalier women's tennis will travel to Buckhannon, West Virginia as they face West Virginia Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 23. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
