Box Score WISE – Cavalier women's tennis battled Milligan College today as the Cavs fell to the Buffs, 6-3. The Cavaliers were able to earn three singles wins against Milligan.
Senior Dasha Tyshchenko and sophomore Aya Melhem managed to win five games against Milligan's Abigail Allen and Lexie Hill, falling 8-5 at the top doubles spot. Junior Mackenzie Lawson teamed up with freshman Gabrielle Beville at the No. 2 spot, but were outlasted by the Buffs Minda Martin and Chessa Jones, 8-1. Sophomore Taylor Carter and junior Montana Hill matched up against Marlaina Peterson and Karson Light of Milligan, dropping their match at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.
UVa-Wise won three singles matches against Milligan College Sunday afternoon. The Cavs opened up singles play with Tyshchenko earning a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Milligan's Allen at the No. 1 singles position. Melhem gained the second win of the day at the No. 2 spot, only allowing two games by the Buffs Martin in the first set before winning the match 6-2, 6-0. Carter suffered a 6-0, 6-2 setback at the No. 3 spot at the hands of Milligan's Hill.
Lawson earned the last win of the afternoon for the Cavs as she defeated the Buffs Light at the No. 4 singles spot, 6-2, 6-0. Senior Serena Burgess was upset at the No.5 position by a score of 6-1, 6-1, dropping the set to Milligan's Jones. Hill was unable to come away with a win at the No. 6 spot as she fell to the Buffs Peterson, 6-1, 6-1.
The Cavs will have another home match Saturday, Sept. 16 at 10:30 a.m. as they face Shepherd University. UVa-Wise will play again Sunday, Sept. 17 at noon against Maryville College at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
