WISE - - UVa-Wise junior wide receiver Kaian Duverger usually receives a lot of attention from opposing defenses but, the 6-foot-6 native of Greenacres, Fla. has been receiving a different kind of attention following his impressive catch against No. 2 Shepherd University Saturday.
Late in the third quarter with his team trailing 42-21, Duverger made one of the more incredible catches in school history. Quarterback Jake Sturgill rolled out of the pocket and lofted a ball toward the end zone where Duverger was covered by a quartet of Rams. The receiver leaped high in the air with one hand and snagged the pass before securing it as he fell to the turf for the touchdown.
Simply put, the play has gone viral. Duverger's catch was featured on ESPN SportsCenter numerous times Saturday night and Sunday morning before Pro Football Hall of Fame nominee Randy Moss featured the catch on ESPN Sunday NFL Countdown. Duverger's catch was tabbed the "You Got Mossed" catch of the week and was again featured prominently Monday on the station's Monday Night Football pregame show.
The NCAA also applauded the junior's work as his catch was named the Play of the Week across all sports and all divisions Monday.
To date, Duverger's catch has been seen over 160,000 times on the social media platform InstaGram while having been liked and retweeted thousands of times on Twitter.
The junior finished his first season in a UVa-Wise uniform as the team's leading receiver with 41 catches for 530 yards and eight touchdowns.
