Box Score WISE - - Women's tennis fell 9-0 to Lincoln Memorial University in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.
Senior Daria Tyshchenko and sophomore Aya Melhem played at No. 1 doubles, falling 8-0 to Lincoln Memorial's Johanna Delisse and Julia Loos. At No. 2, sophomore Taylor Carter and junior Mackenzie Lawson played a strong set against Lincoln Memorial's Marta Pinol and Javiera Gonzalez, but the Cavs fell short as they dropped the match, 8-6. Angelica Solano and Julia Valls of Lincoln Memorial dominated at the No. 3 doubles position, earning an 8-0 victory over junior Montana Hill and freshman Gabrielle Beville.
Tyshchenko played at the No.1 singles position for the Cavaliers as she suffered a 6-1, 6-1 setback against Lincoln Memorial's Pinol. The Lady Railsplitters Loos swept Melhem at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-0, while Carter played in close sets at the No. 3 position, falling 6-4, 6-3 to Lincoln Memorial's Valls. Lawson was able to tie the match at one set apiece, but was defeated in the tiebreaker set as the Lady Railsplitters' Julia Zellner earned the 6-0, 4-6, 10-3 victory at the No. 4 spot. Senior Serena Burgess was outlasted by Solano of Lincoln Memorial, 6-2, 6-0, at No. 5 singles. Hill was able to win four games in the first set, but was overpowered by Lincoln Memorial's Delisse, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 6 position.
Cavalier women's tennis will be on the road Oct. 7 as they face Montreat College at 2 p.m. The Cavs will return home for a matchup against Union College on Oct. 8 at 2 p.m.
