Box Score WISE - - UVa-Wise volleyball dropped its conference match against Concord University Tuesday night, 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-19). The Cavs (4-12, 1-4) registered 50 digs and 36 assists in the contest but were overpowered by Concord's (9-11, 3-2) 39 kills and .266 attack percentage.
The Cavaliers started strong in the match as they went up early in the first set, 7-3, before a Concord timeout. The Mountain Lions managed to come back to take an 18-12 lead late in the set. Concord posted 10 kills and a .250 attack percentage as they took the first set by a score of 25-18.
The Cavs stayed within reach of Concord, only down two early in the second set, 10-8. Behind the Mountain Lions' Brooke Heck's six kills and two digs in the set, Concord proved too strong for the Cavaliers as they earned a 25-19 victory.
UVa-Wise held Concord to an attack percentage of just .191 in the third set. The Cavs were able to tie the score, 11-11, before the Mountain Lions responded going on a 5-0 run. Concord continued to dominate the third set as they outlasted the Cavs, 25-19.
Junior Ciara Kain posted 10 kills and eight digs for the Cavs alongside fellow junior Eustaica Smith who also registered 10 kills in the match. Sophomore Morgan Milligan led the Cavaliers in assists with 16 and added 10 digs, while freshman Makayla Ledford tallied 14 assists. Sophomore Briana Kerr recorded 15 digs for the Cavaliers in the contest.
Next, UVa-Wise volleyball will travel to Tigerville, S.C. on Saturday, Oct. 7. The Cavs will face Emmanuel College at 2 p.m. and North Greenville University at 4 p.m.
