WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise softball team is set to host "Armed Forces Day" next Saturday, April 23, to honor all current and former service men and women, in addition to all law enforcement. Prior to the Cavaliers' (21-22, 11-11 MEC) doubleheader versus West Virginia Wesleyan, those who have served to protect our country and community will be recognized on the field.
Any current or former service men and women and law enforcement are invited and encouraged to attend the game. Those in attendance will be called to meet down by the field before the pregame observance, and then will be escorted out onto the field to stand with the players during the playing of the national anthem.
Family members of both UVa-Wise and West Virginia Wesleyan players that are serving or have served in the service or in law enforcement will be able to join their relatives on the field to be honored.
"Armed Forces Day" on Saturday, April 23 will be followed by Senior Day Sunday, April 24. An alumnae cookout will be held following UVa-Wise's Senior Day doubleheader against Glenville State, all Cavalier softball alumnae and families are invited to join in the celebration and fellowship.
UVa-Wise is back in action this weekend with MEC road doubleheaders at Urbana University Saturday and Notre Dame College Sunday, first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. on both days.
