UVa-Wise Earns 3-1 Win over Glenville State College

Box Score GLENVILLE, W.Va. – UVa-Wise volleyball picked up a Mountain East Conference road victory Friday evening by defeating Glenville State College 3-1 (25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 26-24). The Cavaliers (3-17, 2-3 MEC) took control of the first set and were able to hang tough with the host Lady Pioneers (0-18, 0-4 MEC) in the second and fourth sets, staging comebacks in each of those sets to win the match.
 
UVa-Wise hit .222 in the opening set and recorded 10 kills in each the first and second sets en route to swinging .174 for the match and registering 45 total kills. The Cavs were able to keep Glenville State to an attack percentage of .123 in the four sets and forced 27 Lady Pioneer attack errors. Sixteen of the Cavs 45 kills came in the tightly contested fourth set. Glenville State connected on 46 kills in the match and served 12 aces but UVa-Wise showed its defense with 81 digs and seven total team blocks.
 
Senior outside hitter Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) led the way for UVa-Wise with a double-double of a match-high 16 kills and 19 digs, while fellow senior outside hitter Erin Anderson (Richmond, Va.) made 12 kills and sophomore right side hitter Amanda Auxier (Midlothian, Va.) added seven of her own. Senior middle blocker Lindsey Tucker (Midlothian, Va.) owned the net as she collected a season-high five blocks. Freshman setter Caitlynn Doss (Abingdon, Va.) registered a double-double for the Cavs as well, dishing out a match-high 38 assists and making 15 digs. Allen and freshman defensive specialist Briana Kerr (Virginia Beach, Va.) each served up three aces.
 
The Lady Pioneers were led by Bailey Brawner who tallied 14 kills and a team-high 21 digs. Ai Miyazaki totaled nine kills and 15 digs for Glenville State, while Kaylee Dickenson contributed eight kills and four blocks. Madison Gargus hit a match-high seven service aces as Gargus and Allison Parski each assisted on 19 of the Lady Pioneers' 46 kills.
 
The Cavs wrap up their weekend road trip tomorrow morning in Buckhannon, West Virginia, taking on West Virginia Wesleyan College at 10 a.m.
