Box Score WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise volleyball team won its third consecutive match Saturday morning in the David J. Prior Convocation Center, defeating Glenville State College in three sets (25-21, 25-18, 25-17). The Cavaliers (6-20, 4-6 MEC) controlled the match after a close first set and continued their strong hitting in order to earn the Mountain East Conference sweep over the visiting Lady Pioneers (1-23, 0-9 MEC).
UVa-Wise collected 43 kills and hit .260 for the match, including 17 kills and a .353 attack percentage in the opening set. The Cavs made 53 digs and earned four total team blocks, while keeping Glenville State to hitting .069 for the match with 24 kills.
The two teams combined for 28 kills in the first set as the Cavs pulled away from the Lady Pioneers late for a 25-21 set win. In the second set, UVa-Wise held Glenville State to just five kills and a negative attack percentage of -.071 en route to a 25-18 triumph. The Cavs raced out to a commanding lead in what proved to be the final set and never trailed after the first four points of the set. UVa-Wise connected on 14 kills in the third set and swung at a mark of .237, clinching the match at 25-17 after a Lady Pioneer service error.
Senior middle blocker
Santana Bishop (Gate City, Va.) led the way for UVa-Wise with 15 kills off an impressive .667 hitting percentage and three blocks. Senior outside hitter
Karley Allen (Lanexa, Va.) notched a double-double for UVa-Wise with 12 kills and 10 digs, while senior middle blocker
Lindsey Tucker (Midlothian, Va.) recorded seven kills as she swung at a .500 clip for the three sets. Senior libero
Erin Lee (Fincastle, Va.) secured the Cavs' back line with a match-high 15 digs as senior outside hitter
Erin Anderson (Richmond, Va.) added another 10 digs. Sophomore right side hitter
Amanda Auxier (Midlothian, Va.) hit six kills herself and freshman setter
Morgan Milligan (Bridgewater, Va.) dished out a match-high 27 assists. Fellow freshman setter
Caitlynn Doss (Abingdon, Va.) assisted on 12 of UVa-Wise's 43 kills.
The Lady Pioneers were led by Bailey Brawner and Jazaray Clark-Casto who tallied eight kills apiece. Brawner earned a double-double in the match as she got to 10 digs, while Clark-Casto made two blocks and Madison Gargus assisted on 12 of Glenville State's 24 kills. Allison Parski dished out nine assists for the Lady Pioneers as Ai Miyazaki dug seven UVa-Wise attacks.
The Cavs will now hit the road for two road games next week, first stepping out of league play to take on King University (Tenn.) Tuesday at 7 p.m. before traveling to Wheeling Jesuit University for an MEC match Friday at 5 p.m.
