WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise women's tennis team rebounded from a road Mountain East Conference loss at West Liberty Saturday by stepping out of the league and earning a 7-2 win over NCAA Division III Maryville College Sunday in Wise.
 
The Cavaliers (4-5, 2-3 MEC) won their third consecutive match at home by defeating the visiting Scots (0-1) as UVa-Wise swept doubles and claimed victories at No. 3 through No. 6 singles.
 
Maryville's lone match wins came by default at No. 1 and No. 2 singles due to the Cavs' Daria Tyshchenko and Bailey Christoforatos not being able to play singles.
 
Seniors Haley Thacker and Junetta Nuckels remained undefeated in doubles on the season as the duo stepped up to No. 2 doubles and defeated Caitlin Jennings and McKennah Francis of Maryville 8-0.
 
Sophomore Tyshchenko and junior Christoforatos were 8-1 winners at the top doubles spot against Maryville's Jenny Pavlides and Maddy Little, while freshman Mackenzie Lawson and sophomore Serena Burgess earned their first win as a doubles pair at the third spot (8-1) over the Scots' Savannah Bain and Tessa Wilcox.
 
Both Thacker and Nuckels tallied double bagel (6-0, 6-0) wins at the No. 3 and No. 5 singles positions respectively. Thacker defeated Pavlides of Maryville at the No. 3 spot while Nuckels got the win over the Scots' Katie Stephens.
 
Lawson picked up a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 4 singles as she took down Maryville's Jennings.
 
In her first singles match of her collegiate career, freshman Montana Hill earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory against the Scots' Francis.
 
The Cavs will try to make it four in a row at home as they remain out of conference play to take on Lincoln Memorial Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
