Box Score 2 ELKINS, W.Va. – The UVa-Wise women's volleyball team dropped a pair of five-set matches Saturday at the Davis & Elkins tournament in Elkins, West Virginia, wrapping up their nine-game stretch of matches away from home to begin the 2015 season.

The Cavaliers (3-6) were unable to complete a comeback against tournament host Davis & Elkins (1-6) in the first match of the day and gave up a two sets to none lead against Bluefield State (4-3) in the second match this afternoon.

Playing tournament host Davis & Elkins the Cavs battled their way back from 25-20 and 25-22 first and second set losses, taking the second set 25-23 and the third 25-20. However, the Cavs were not able to take the fifth as the Senators to the final and deciding set 15-8.

The Cavs held an attack percentage of .144 for the five sets including .385 in the fourth set. UVa-Wise made a total of 55 kills in the match compared to Davis & Elkins' 64. The Senators hit .163 for the match and tallied a total of 71 digs while making 62 assists. UVa-Wise recorded a total of 69 digs and 53 assists in the match.

Karley Allen continued her fine play as she led the Cavs with 19 kills and 17 digs. Junior libero
Erin Lee added 13 digs as freshman setter
Chandler Rouse tallied 48 assists in her third-career start. Junior middle blocker
Santana Bishop also made 13 kills for the Cavs.

Elizabeth Estes led Davis & Elkins on offense with 19 kills as Ellie Drain recorded 22 digs and Haylee Murray made 45 assists for the Senators.

In the second match of the day and final match of the tournament for UVa-Wise, the Cavs dropped a second-consecutive 15-8 fifth-set decision.

After claiming the first two sets against Bluefield State 25-13 and 25-15, the Cavs dropped the next two 25-13 and 25-22. In the fifth and final set UVa-Wise once again fell 15-8 to decide the match and give Bluefield State the victory.

Both UVa-Wise and Bluefield State hit fairly well for the match as the Cavs recorded an attack percentage of .234 and Bluefield state hit .230. The Cavs made 49 total kills compared to Bluefield State's 59.

The Cavs were also edged in digs with 59 total digs for the match as Bluefield State had 62. UVa-Wise made 47 total assists while Bluefield State tallied 54.

Once again Allen led on offense for the Cavs with 16 kills as freshman outside hitter earned 14 kills. Junior outside hitter
Erin Anderson led on defense for UVa-Wise with a match-high 18 digs while Rouse dished in 46 assists.

Tyann Thomas led Bluefield State with a match-high 21 kills and 14 digs. Bluefield State's Alee Quint tallied 51 assists.

The Cavs will have a five-day rest before returning to competition Thursday in Wise for their home opener against former conference foe Milligan College at 6:30 p.m. The match will be featured as "Throwback Thursday" night and will be played in historic Greear Gymnasium.Â
