Box Score PIKEVILLE, Ky. - - Annie Hanson scored three goals and Lauren Donahue added two as UVa-Wise claimed a 9-1 rain-shortened victory over the University of Pikeville in women's lacrosse action Tuesday night.
The Cavaliers (2-7) scored the first five goals of the game and outshot the Bears 22-12 in the contest. At intermission, coach Meghan Dennehy's squad held a 6-1 advantage as Hanson scored two of her goals in the period and Donahue scored both of her goals in the half.
UVa-Wise kept up the onslaught in the second half as Hanson netted her third goal before Danielle Newcomb and Stephanie Sintetas entered the goal column.
In goal, Mel Reilly picked up six saves, had two groundballs, and caused two turnovers in the road victory.
Four of the Cavaliers' nine goals occurred in the first 10 minutes of the game. Following a Hanson goal in the 50 minute, officials stopped the contest due to unsafe field conditions.
The win was the second in the last three games for the first-year program. Each of the team's four remaining contests are Mountain East Conference games, two of which will take place at Carl Smith Stadium.
Next up is a trip to Urbana on Friday to start the season-ending stretch of MEC contests. Â
