Mountain Lions Sweep Cavaliers

WISE, Va. – Concord University claimed a 8-0 victory in game one before posting a 11-2 win to complete a doubleheader sweep of UVa-Wise in softball action on Tuesday.
The Mountain Lions (29-13, 17-5 MEC) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as Alyssa Morris homered to left center.
Concord add two more runs in the top of the third as Morris knocked a double up the left field line and scored Lacey McDougall and Whitney Carrigan.
The Mountain Lions sealed the deal in the top of the fourth as they scored five more runs to use the run-rule against the Cavaliers.
McDougall allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out three batters for Concord.
Sarah Beamer allowed seven hits and three walks, while striking out two batters for UVa-Wise.
In game two, the Mountain Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the second before adding three more runs in the top of the third.
The Cavaliers only runs of the day came from a two-run home run from Erika McLaughlin making the score 6-2 in the bottom of the third.
Concord added two more runs in the top of the fourth and three more runs in the top of the fifth to run-rule UVa-Wise.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday as the team hosts the University of Charleston at 2 pm.
