Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. – Visiting UVa-Wise and host Wheeling Jesuit split a Mountain East Conference softball doubleheader on Saturday. The Cardinals won game one 7-2 before the Cavaliers scored a 5-1 victory in game two.
UVa-Wise jumped out to a 2-0 lead in game one by scoring a single run in both the second and third innings as Emily Kale knocked a single to second base and Erika McLaughlin doubled to right field. Wheeling Jesuit scored three runs in the bottom of the third and never relinquished the lead from that point. Morgan Stohlman doubled to center field to score Kelsi Thompson. Lorian Tharp reached on a throwing error allowing Stohlman to score and Victoria Scott doubled to down the left field line scoring Tharp.
The Cardinals scored a single run in the bottom of the fourth off of a sacrifice fly to right field from Thompson.
Wheeling Jesuit added three runs in the bottom of sixth to seal the deal for the Cardinals.
In game two, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth as Kale singled to left field scoring McLaughlin.
Wheeling Jesuit evened the score 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth as Dana Achille hit a sacrifice fly to right field.
UVa-Wise scored two runs in the top of the fifth from a double into right center from Mindy Combs and a single to the pitcher from Kellie Waycaster. The Cavaliers scored a single run in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Sarah Beamer allowed seven hits and had five strikeouts in game two for UVa-Wise as she posted the win in the circle. The Cavaliers will return to action on Tuesday against Concord University at 3 pm.
