Box Score 2 WHEELING, W.Va. – Visiting UVa-Wise and host West Liberty split a Mountain East Conference softball doubleheader on Friday. The Hilltoppers won game one 3-2 before the Cavaliers scored a 4-0 victory in game two.
In the opener, West Liberty jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Tayor Zeiger knocked one to second base allowing Nicki Mihalik to score with bases loaded.
UVa-Wise evened the score 1-1 as Mindy Combs doubled to left center scoring Ericka McLaughlin. The Hilltoppers evened the score in the bottom of the fifth Savanna Sieger singled down the left field line scoring Kalyn Hanby.
West Liberty sealed the deal in the bottom of the seventh from a single into right field from Kelsi Johnson.
In game two, the Cavaliers jumped out to a 2-0 in the top of the first and never relinquished the lead.
Sarah Beamer allowed three hits, posted 10 strikeouts and allowed three walks for UVa-Wise in the circle. The Cavaliers will return to action tomorrow as the team takes on Wheeling Jesuit at 12 pm.
