Box Score 2 WISE, Va. - West Virginia Wesleyan collected 36 hits en route to 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep against UVa-Wise on Saturday. The Bobcats claimed a 9-3 victory in game one before defeating the Cavaliers 14-0 in game two.
Wesleyan (21-5, 11-1 MEC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning of game one and never relinquished the lead. Megan Malenstyn started the big-scoring day for the Bobcats as her RBI triple into right field scored Brooklyn Waddell. Olivia Gore singled into right field to bring Malenstyn home.
Wesleyan would add three runs in the second, three runs in the fourth and one run in the seventh to claim the 9-1 victory.
UVa-Wise (4-16, 4-10 MEC) got on the board in the bottom of the fourth by one of the four errors the Bobcats committed in the game.
The Cavaliers would add a lone run in the bottom of the fifth off of an RBI double from Mindy Combs sending Zoe Millard home. UVa-Wise scored its final run in the bottom of the seventh as Combs homered to left center.
In game two, West Virginia Wesleyan used the run-rule to defeat the Cavaliers 14-0 in five innings.
UVa-Wise will return to action tomorrow as the team hosts Glenville State College at 1 pm.
