Meghan Dennehy's women's lacrosse team at UVa-Wise made history Wednesday afternoon as the first-year program secured its first ever victory.Â
Stephanie Sintetas scored four goals while
Annie Hanson added three goals in a 15-2 road victory over Lincoln Memorial University.
Lincoln Memorial scored the first goal of the game when Bre'Asia James found the back of the net just under two minutes into the contest.
UVa-Wise (1-6) scored the next 11 goals to put the game out of reach. Sintetas scored three of her goals in the stretch while
Taylor Lawton scored a pair of goals and handed out three assists in the scoring spurt.
Autumn Beddington scored the only other goal of the contest for the Railsplitters.
Five Cavaliers scored at least two goals in the historic victory as
Rachel Cole,
Hannah Marshall, and Lawton each tallied two goals in addition to the hat tricks turned in by Sintetas and Hanson.
Lawton finished with four assists and four groundballs in the win and UVa-Wise forced 22 LMU turnovers. In goal,
Mel Reilly posted eight saves in earning her first collegiate win in net.
The Cavaliers will return to action on Saturday when the team hosts Shepherd University in the first ever Mountain East Conference contest in school history.
