ATHENS. W.Va. – Concord remained unbeaten in Mountain East Conference play with a double header sweep of UVa-Wise on Wednesday. The Mountain Lions used a six-run fifth inning to claim game one 9-1 before a four-run sixth propelled the team to a 5-2 win in the finale.

Whitney Williams had the only RBI in the first inning of the first game to give the Cavaliers (1-11, 1-5 MEC) a 1-0 lead over the Mountain Lions.

Concord (18-8, 6-0 MEC) jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning and never relinquished the lead. Lauren Lewis started the scoring for the Mountain Lions as her RBI double scored Lacey McDougall. Following a walk from Allie Reid, Kristen Rose was hit by a pitch to send Alyssa Morris home.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Mountain Lions would score a single run from a McDougall hit.

Concord scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by the run-rule.

In the second game, the Mountain Lions scored their first run in the bottom of the first and led wire-to-wire as Morris doubled to centerfield to bring Alayna Furr home.

UVa-Wise would score its only runs in the top of the fourth as Mindy Combs homered over the left field fence and Emily Kale scored on an error.

Concord scored its remaining four runs in the bottom of the sixth as Carly DiVirgilio hit a two-RBI single to centerfield and brought home both Lewis and Bonham. The following two runs occurred on a bad throw by the Cavaliers.

UVa-Wise will return to action on Saturday at home against Urbana University at 1 pm.
