Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - - History was made Saturday afternoon as UVa-Wise competed in its first ever women's lacrosse game at Young Harris College. Rachel Cole scored the first goal in program history with 13:46 to play in the opening period in an 18-3 defeat.
Young Harris (4-0) scored nine goals in the first 16 minutes of play, including two each from Nicole Kernohan and Jaclyn Kernohan. Nicole Kernohan finished the game with a game-high four goals, while six Mountain Lions tallied multiple goals.
UVa-Wise (0-1) received a goal from Annie Hanson on a free position shot with 2:26 to play before Cole scored her second goal of the day with 56 seconds remaining.
Goalkeeper Mel Reilly finished the game with nine saves for the Cavs while Danielle Newcomb, Henson, and Hannah Marshall each had a caused turnover in the contest.
UVa-Wise is scheduled to play its first ever home game on Wednesday when Lees-McRae College visits Smith Stadium for a 4 p.m. start time.
