WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise women's tennis team will honor seniors
Haley Thacker and
Junetta Nuckels prior to Tuesday's 4 p.m. home match against National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) opponent Bluefield College (Va.).
Thacker, a native of Elizabethton, Tennessee (Elizabethton H.S.) is a nursing major, while Nuckels is a native of Richlands, Virginia (Richlands H.S.), and majoring in chemistry.
The Cavaliers (5-5, 3-3) are seeking their fifth win in a row in Wise as they finish out the home portion of the fall season Tuesday afternoon. UVa-Wise swept Concord University 9-0 Sunday to even its Mountain East Conference record at 3-3 and claim its second consecutive win.
Sophomore
Daria Tyshchenko leads the Cavs with a 6-3 No. 1 singles record, while the duo of seniors Thacker and Nuckels remain a perfect 5-0 in doubles. The pair is 4-0 in MEC matches this season, holding a 2-0 record at No. 2 doubles and a 3-0 mark at No. 3 doubles overall.
Freshman
Mackenzie Lawson is 6-4 in singles play this season, owning a 4-4 record at the fifth spot and an unblemished 2-0 mark at the fourth spot. Nuckels is also 6-4 in singles play on the year with a 4-4 No. 6 singles record and a perfect 2-0 mark at the fifth spot. Thacker has gone 5-4 in singles this season all at No. 3 position.
Tomorrow's match will be Bluefield College's first dual match of the fall season.
Following Tuesday's match the Cavs will hit the road for their final two matches of the fall season. UVa-Wise travels to Fairmont, West Virginia, to take on MEC foe West Virginia Wesleyan in a neutral site match Saturday at 1 p.m. before stepping out of conference to face Davis & Elkins College Sunday.
