WISE, Va. – The UVa-Wise women's tennis team won their fourth consecutive match at home and the teams' second match in a row by defeating Mountain East Conference foe Concord University Sunday at the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex. With the win the Cavaliers (5-5, 3-3 MEC) have now won four of their past five matches.
 
The visiting Mountain Lions (0-5, 0-5 MEC) were only able to have five players compete in today's match, giving the Cavs a singles and doubles match by default.
 
The Cavs took No. 1 doubles as the duo of sophomore Daria Tyshchenko and junior Bailey Christoforatos defeated Taylor Dixon and Erin Johnson of Concord, 8-3. Second doubles were first off the court in doubles action with seniors Haley Thacker and Junetta Nuckels taking down the Mountain Lions' Amy Ahern and Hannah Growe, 8-1. No. 3 doubles was won by default as Concord did not have a sixth player.
 
In singles action both Christoforatos and Nuckels earned 6-0, 6-0 shutout wins as Bailey defeated Concord's Johnson at the second spot and Junetta got the win over the Mountain Lions' Lelia Suydan at the fifth spot.
 
Tyshchenko, the reigning UVa-Wise women's Cavalier of the Month, earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dixon of Concord at the top singles spot, while junior Marti Gay had a 6-2, 6-0 victory against the Mountain Lions' Ahern at No. 3 singles.
 
Freshman Mackenzie Lawson improved her record at No. 4 singles to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Growe of Concord.
 
The Cavs only have one day off from competition before wrapping up their home schedule of the fall season Tuesday afternoon. UVa-Wise will host senior day at 4 p.m. as the Cavs welcome National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) opponent Bluefield College (Va.) to the Jim and Betty Humphreys Tennis Complex.
 
Seniors Haley Thacker and Junetta Nuckels will be honored prior to the match Tuesday.
