ELKINS, W.Va. - - The women's tennis team at UVa-Wise will enter next week's Mountain East Conference Tournament with some momentum after claiming an 8-1 road non-conference win over Davis and Elkins Sunday. The Cavaliers went a perfect 3-0 in doubles play before winning five of singles contests to post their seventh victory of the fall.
UVa-Wise (7-6) won all three doubles matches by identical 8-4 tallies. Daria Tyschenko and Bailey Christoforatos won for the second consecutive day at No. one doubles, it was the seventh win of the year for the team. At No. two doubles, Marti Gay and Mackenzie Lawson claimed their third doubles win of the year while seniors Haley Thacker and Junetta Nuckles won their final regular season match as a team playing No. three doubles.
Tyschenko, Thacker and Gay all won in straight sets in singles action. Lawson took home an 8-4 pro set victory in number five singles while Nuckles cruised to an 8-0 win in number six singles.
Next up is a rematch with West Virginia Wesleyan in the opening round of the MEC Tournament on Friday. Full results of today's match may be found below:
