Cavalier Great Brock Funk Passes Away

WISE - - Friday, UVa-Wise lost a very special human being. Brock Funk, who aided the Cavalier baseball team to consecutive regional tournament appearances and ranks second in school history in pitching wins passed away.

During Brock's career he was known as a big-game pitcher who led UVa-Wise to some of its biggest regular season wins in recent history. Quite possibly the best performance of his career came March 29, 2008 when he pitched all nine innings, throwing well in excess of 100 pitches in a Cavalier victory over nationally ranked Tennessee Wesleyan.

Brock threw more innings in his senior season of 2008 than any pitcher in any single-season in school history with 86.2.

He finished his career with a 23-10 record on the mound while his sophomore season of 2006 ranks as one of the best seasons by a player who was both a position player and a pitcher in UVa-Wise history.  That season, Brock compiled a 7-1 record with a 2.78 ERA as a pitcher while hitting .302 with five home runs as a hitter.

Services for Brock will be held Monday in St. Paul, Va. at the school's gym.  Brock is survived by his wife Terri Anne, also a former student-athlete, his sister Megan, also a former student-athlete, his parents Tiny and Roxanne and two young children Zeke and Zoe.

The family is asking for donations to the children's scholarship fund in lieu of flowers. For more information on the scholarship fund please visit:  http://www.gofundme.com/kdefmc
