WISE - - Coach Kristin Kunzman and her staff announced the signing of five players for the upcoming 2014-15 women's basketball season. The recruiting class is comprised entirely of guards but features a mixture of transfers and prep signees. The states of Virginia, Tennessee, Maryland, Utah, and New York are represented by the new Cavaliers who will look to aid the team in building on its success from its inaugural season in the Mountain East Conference.
Baltimore native Blair Harding comes to UVa-Wise after a high school career that saw her average 10 points per game and shoot 37 percent from the field at Baltimore Polytech. The 5-8 Blair spent the last two seasons at Iowa Western Community College where she spent time at point guard and shooting guard.Â
"We are excited to add a veteran to the roster," said Kunzman. "Blair is a talented combo guard who is physical. She can shoot the three and finish at the rim."
Salt Lake City, Utah's Kehana Grayer comes to Wise after playing at Colorado Northwestern Community College. Known for her defense, the 5-8 Grayer has the ability to lockdown the other team's top offensive threat while also having the ability to stretch the floor with her mid-range and perimeter shooting ability.
"We are happy to have Kehana join the squad. With her knowledge of the game and passion, we feel she will excel here," said Kunzman. "Once acclimated to our system she will fit in great."
Naya Williams finished her prep career as the all-time leading scorer at The Masters School in Dobbs Ferry, New York.  In addition to her 1,835 points she also tallied 500 steals and 300 assists while at The Masters School.
"Naya is a tough defender who is used to an up-tempo game," said Kunzman. "We are looking forward to watching her grow as a collegiate athlete."
Cocke County High School's Allison Ball earned all-state honors and was a four-time all-conference selection for the Fighting Cocks.Â
"Allison is going to be a great fit for our team and system," said Kunzman. "She is a knockdown shooter and we are ready to see her on the court with the team."
Norton, Virginia product Iris Hill is coming off a season in which she started 12 games for Virginia Intermont College. A year ago, the Cobras won 14 games with Hill's help and coach Kunzman is happy to have some local flavor back on the team.
"Iris is athletic and I look forward to seeing how she has exceled over the last two seasons," said Kunzman. "We are happy to have a Wise County girl on the team again."
UVa-Wise will open the season in Pennsylvania with a pair of games against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference schools on Nov. 15-16.
