Dillion and Romualdo Homer in Doubleheader Split at Concord

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

ATHENS, W.Va. - - Concord University and UVa-Wise split a softball doubleheader on Thursday.  The host Mountain Lions won game one 7-2 before the Cavaliers used a pair of three-hit performances from seniors Megan Dillion and Sarah Wiltshire in the finale to win game two 4-1.

Concord (28-18, 12-12 MEC) struck first in game one with a two-out RBI single by Lauren Lewis in the home half of the first inning.

UVa-Wise (31-12, 18-4 MEC) would take the lead in the third inning as Charity Lawson and Dillion each had an RBI in the frame.  The lead would be short lived for Karen Bitter's squad as the Mountain Lions took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth.

Brantlea Wood, Kristi Benvenuto, and Allysaa Morris all had an RBI in the three-run inning.  Concord tallied six hits in the frame before leaving the bases loaded.

Leaving the bases loaded in the fourth inning would not come back to bite the Mountain Lions as the team scored once in the fifth and twice in the sixth to claim the 7-2 triumph.  Morris finished the contest with a game-high three hits and two RBIs while Lewis and Allie Reid each lined two hits in the win.

Game two saw the Cavaliers score an unearned run in the top of the first inning and never look back in earning the doubleheader split.

UVa-Wise added to its lead in the third inning when Kristina Romualdo blasted a two-run home run to right field in giving her club a 3-0 lead.

A Dillion homer in the fifth inning accounted for the Cavs fourth run of the game when she drove a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence.

Concord scored its lone run of the game on a solo home run by Morris in the sixth inning.  It was the only blemish on an otherwise excellent outing by UVa-Wise starter Taylor Brandts.  The freshman tossed a complete game three-hitter in earning her 18th victory of the season.

The doubleheader was the first of three consecutive league twin-bills away from Cavalier Field to finish the regular season for the Cavaliers.  UVa-Wise will be back in action on Saturday at 2 pm when the team visits Charleston.
