Blue Knights Sweep Baseball Doubleheader From UVa-Wise

WISE - - Urbana University scored the game winning run on a wild pitch in extra innings to score a 5-4 victory in game one before scoring in six of the seven innings of game two in posting a 14-5 win.

In the opener, the two schools battled to a 4-4 tie through the first three innings before the two schools would trade back-and-forth scoreless innings through the remainder of regulation.  Urbana (2-0, 2-0 MEC) would score the winning run with two outs in the top of the eighth inning when a wild pitch on a 3-2 count allowed pinch runner Matt Watson to score the winning run from second.

UVa-Wise (2-8, 1-5 MEC) received a 3-4 performance from Ty Lighton and a pair of RBIs from Bill Steven in the loss.

In game two, Urbana raced out to a 5-0 lead and never trailed en route to the 14-5 win.  Eight Blue Knights combined for 14 hits in the win led by Robert Tavone Jr.'s 3-4 performance.  Tavone knocked in four runs in the game and scored another.  Roman Gammell added a two-run homer for the visitors who were playing their first games of the season due to weather.

Will Cline was the only Cav to have multiple hits in the loss as he went 2-3 with a run scored.

The series will conclude on Sunday with another doubleheader.  First pitch is slated for 1 pm from Stallard Field.
