Chelsea Cluesman is a senior student athlete for the UVa-Wise Women's Golf team. Coming from Jonesville, Virginia, Cluesman was a four year letter winner for the UVa-Wise Women's Basketball team and a two time Academic All-American while also earning NAIA All-American honors as a senior. She finished her basketball career as one of the leading scorers and rebounders in UVa-Wise history. This is her second year as a member of the Women's Golf team. Cavaliers (CS): What led you to become an athlete at UVa-Wise?
Chelsea Cluesman (CC): I have always wanted to have the opportunity to play collegiate basketball. UVa-Wise gave me this opportunity to do so.
CS: What do you love most about basketball and golf?
CC: I love the atmosphere of games when it comes to basketball. The ability to play in front of your home crowd. In golf I love the individuality you endure when playing in tournaments and the concentration it involves.
CS: What is your major?
CC: Health and Physical Education with a concentration in Sports Management
CS: What is your favorite movie?
CC: Sweet Home Alabama
CS: What led to your decision to become a basketball player and a golfer?
CC: Basketball and golf were always my favorite sports growing up and to be able to have the opportunity to participate in both at UVA-Wise is something I could not pass up.
CS: What famous athletes do you look up to?
CC: Tiger Woods and Lebron James
CS: What is your favorite TV show?
CC: Greys Anatomy
CS: What are your plans after college?
CC: To attend a Doctoral Physical Therapy program
CS; What do you like to do on the weekends?
CC: Any activity that involves being outdoors
CS: How do you feel about being an athlete at UVa-Wise?
CC: I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dreams of playing sports at the collegiate level.
CS: What have you learned while being in college?
CC: Time management skills
CS: What are the major differences in high school sports and college sports?
CC: In my opinion the time commitment is the major difference. Making the transition from high school sports to college sports is a major change. Playing a sport in college is equivalent to having a full-time job.
CS: What is your favorite thing about UVa-Wise and Wise County?
CC: The small class room sizes and the availability of the instructors
. I like the small town family atmosphere in Wise County.
CS: What are your career goals?
CC: To become a licensed Physical Therapist
CS: What would people be surprised to learn about you?
CC: I am obsessed with watching the golf channel on TV.
CS: What are your favorite sports teams?
CC: Tennessee Lady Vols and Miami Heat
CS: What is your favorite sports moment?
CC:Beating Shawnee State my senior year in basketball, which at the time they were ranked number 2 in the nation
CS: What is your favorite hobby outside of basketball/golf?
CC: Being outdoors and hanging out with friends and family
CS: What advice would you give to freshmen coming to UVa-Wise to participate in athletics?
CC: Be able to manage your time when it comes to both academics and athletics. Find a balance between the two and a schedule that works best for you.
