GREENSBORO, GA -- UVA Wise tied for ninth place at the Newberry Women's Fall Invitational, with
Emma Zelaski and
Abby Bradley both shooting a total of 169 to tie for 23rd individually.
The Highland Cavaliers finished with a total score of 690 to tie with Auburn-Montgomery. Coker won the event with a score of 641, while host Newberry placed eighth with 686.
The team improved in the second round, shooting a combined 341, eight strokes better than their first-round performance. Zelaski and Bradley led the team, each improving their first-round scores in the second round. Zelaski shot an 86 in the first round and an 83 in the second, while Bradley started with an 84 and finished with an 85. They both tied for 23rd
Julia Kessler also contributed to the team's overall performance, placing 29th with a total of 172. Kessler remained consistent with rounds of 86 in both rounds.
Lilli Kate Barker showed notable improvement in her second round, shooting an 87 after an opening round of 93, finishing tied for 40th at 180. The Harbor Club course, playing at a par 72 over 5,919 yards, presented a challenging environment for the competitors.
Looking ahead, the Highland Cavaliers will close out the Fall portion of their season at the Converse Fall Invitational on October 25 at the Woodfin Ridge Golf Course in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
