Box Score WISE, Va. – UVa-Wise celebrated Senior Day 2014 in grand fashion with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-10) victory over Glenville State on Saturday. Seniors Brittni Altmann, Veronica Sanchez and Ashley Hooven all played a key role in Saturday's victory as they aided the Cavaliers to the school's first winning season since 2007.
UVa-Wise went on a 14-2 run in the opening set, thanks in large part to Lindsey Tucker who had six kills in the stretch. Sanchez had 10 of her match-high 24 assists in the 25-12 open set victory.
UVa-Wise continued its momentum in the second set as the Cavaliers took a one point lead at 7-6 and never trailed en route to the set two victory. Hooven handed out eight of her 12 assists in the set as the Cavaliers cruise to a 2-0 lead in the match.
Coach Kristen Salyer was able to work in some younger players in the final set as every player on the roster saw playing time in the match. Freshman Deja Stallard recorded her first collegiate solo block and Karley Allen had seven of her match-high 15 kills in the final set.
Altmann joined Allen with 15 digs to lead all players in the match. The double-double for Allen was her second in as many days.
The match concludes the 2014 season for UVa-Wise. With 14 wins, the Cavaliers doubled their win total from 2013.
