Box Score MILLIGAN, Tenn. - - UVa-Wise won its fifth consecutive match with a 3-0 (25-15, 25-12, 25-22) victory over Milligan College at the Steve Lacy Fieldhouse on Monday. Recent Mountain East Conference Player of the Week honoree Karley Allen led all players with 15 kills while teammate Brittni Altmann collected a match-high 14 digs in the win.
UVa-Wise (12-9) finished the first set on an 11-4 run to claim the 25-15 win. In the run, Ashley Hooven had a pair of service aces while Lindsey Tucker had two kills and a block.
Set two saw the Cavaliers race to a 7-0 lead and never look back as two service aces by Erin Anderson and kills by Maicee Allen, Tucker, and Allen were part of the fast start. The Buffaloes (14-13) would get no closer than four points in the set as the host fell behind 2-0 in the match.
Milligan would put up its strongest effort of the evening in the final set as the team held an 11-10 lead and forced a tie at 21 late in the set. Allen would finish the match with three of her 15 kills to give the Cavs the set win and their fifth consecutive match win.
UVa-Wise finished with a .349 hitting percentage as eight different players tallied a kill in the non-conference win. Veronica Sanchez led all players with 27 assists for the victorious Cavs. UVa-Wise will look for a sixth consecutive win on Wednesday when the club visits King University in a non-conference showdown.
