WISE- -  In the first Mountain East Conference match in school history, the Cavalier (1-0, 1-0) women's tennis team hopes that today is foreshadowing to what could be an amazing season as they reigned victorious over conference foe Shepherd University (0-1, 0-1) 5-4. On a day that saw as many as 150 spectators UVa-Wise posted a 3-3 mark in singles play and went 2-1 in three doubles matches to claim the victory.

 

UVa-Wise's Rose Bennett won her first collegiate singles tennis match winning in straight sets in number six singles action with a 6-0, 6-1 win.  Junetta Nuckels, number five singles and Haley Thacker, number three singles also posted individual wins. The team of Bailey Christoforatos and Haley Thacker along with the duo of Junetta Nuckels and Lauren Powers defeated their opponents 8-4 to round out the five Cavalier victories.

 

The victory is the first for UVa-Wise in any sport in the Mountain East Conference. Both men's and women's tennis teams will be back in action at Milligan College on Sept. 10. Matches are slated to start at 1 pm for the women and 4 pm for the men. Full results of the match are listed below.
