Box Score WISE - - Karley Allen posted a match-high 22 kills and added 13 digs to aid UVa-Wise in ending a seven match losing streak with a 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-23) victory over Concord University at the Prior Center on Saturday.
The opening set saw UVa-Wise score three straight points to break a 20-20 tie en route to a 25-23 win. The three straight points included two service aces from
Erin Lee and an attack error from Brytni Williams. The Cavaliers scored the final two points of the set on a kill by Allen and another Concord attack error.
UVa-Wise jumped out to a 6-2 lead in the second set and led by as many as six points at 17-11 mid-way through the set. Concord would rally to tie the set at 24-24 to force extra points in the set. The Cavs wasted no time in ending the set as
Santana Bishop hammered home one of her seven kills and Allen added another kill to win the set 26-24.
The host again jumped out to an early lead, this time a 7-3 advantage. Concord made one last push in the match and eventually took an 18-16 lead only to see the Cavs outscore them 9-5 over the remainder of the set to win 25-23.
For the match, UVa-Wise finished with a .205 hitting percentage and had eight service aces.
Veronica Sanchez handed out a match-high 31 assists and Brittni Altman finished with a match-high 16 digs in the win.
The Cavs will return to play on Friday when the team hosts University of Charleston for a 7 pm start.
