Box Score WISE - - Visiting West Liberty University scored a 3-0 (25-20, 25-16, 27-25) Mountain East Conference volleyball victory over host UVa-Wise at the Prior Center on Friday. The victorious Hilltoppers (11-14, 6-5 MEC) were led by Chelsea Bertie who finished the match with nine kills on 17 attempts while adding two digs and a block assist.
UVa-Wise (6-16, 1-9 MEC) fell behind 10-5 in the opening set only to rally to tie the set at 15 thanks to a pair of service aces from
Jessica Henry and three errors by West Liberty. The Hilltoppers would answer back with a 4-0 run to open a 20-16 lead and never look back en route to a 25-20 set one win.
The second set of the match saw the Cavaliers gain a 7-3 advantage only to see the visitors storm back with a 12-2 run en route to a 25-16 win. In the set, West Liberty finished with a .400 hitting percentage and committed just two hitting errors.
UVa-Wise appeared to be on the cusp on sending the match to a fourth set as the host led by as many as six points in the third set. West Liberty rallied to tie the match at 23 and eventually took a 24-23 lead in the set only to see UVa-Wise score back-to-back points on a ball handling error and
Karley Allen kill. From there, the Hilltoppers scored consecutive points as Nicole Sadecky and Peyton Miller each produced a kill to win the match.
Overall, Allen led all players with 14 kills, she also added 11 digs. Teammate
Brittni Altmann finished with a match-high 12 digs while
Jessica Henry's 29 assists were also a match-high. Chelsea Byrge and Miranda Garmenn combined for 30 assists for West Liberty.
