Box Score CHARLESTON, W.Va. - - Host University of Charleston finished with a .222 hitting percentage en route to a 3-0 (25-15, 25-15, 25-22) Mountain East Conference victory over visiting UVa-Wise on Saturday. The Golden Eagles' Katharine Furlong finished the match with 11 kills and 11 digs in aiding the host to victory.
In the opening set, Charleston (15-8, 6-4 MEC) used a 13-5 run to coast to a 25-15 win. UVa-Wise (6-15, 1-8 MEC ) was plagued by seven hitting errors while collecting just nine kills in the set. Five of the hitting errors occurred in the 13-5 Golden Eagles run.
The second set also featured a lengthy scoring run by the Charleston as a 12-5 run took the host advantage from 10-7 to 22-12. Again, UVa-Wise would be unable to recover as Charleston duplicated its set one victory, 25-15. In the set, the Golden Eagles' McKensie Milam claimed three consecutive service aces.
UVa-Wise would have its strongest showing in the final set of the match as the team trailed 12-11 mid-way through the set. From there, a 4-0 run gave Charleston a 16-11 lead and UVa-Wise could not recover as Charleston won its fourth consecutive match.
Jessica Henry led all players with 21 assists and teammate
Brittni Altmann finished with match-high 15 digs in the loss.
The Cavs will return to action on Friday when West Liberty visits the Prior Center for a MEC match. The match is set to start at 7 pm.
