Highland Cavs Drop Penultimate Home SAC Series to LMU, 6-1 and 6-5

WISE – UVA Wise came up short on both ends of a South Atlantic Conference softball doubleheader against Lincoln Memorial Wednesday afternoon, falling by 6-1 and 6-5.

The Highland Cavaliers  had 15 hits over both games, but could not bring home the baserunners.

GAME ONE – LMU 6, UVA Wise 1
- The Cavs recorded seven hits in the game, but the Railsplitters capitalized on their 10 hits and four doubles to secure the victory.
- Lincoln Memorial seized an early advantage in the first inning with a two-run double by Nicole Couvertiere, bringing in Jordann Reagan and Hannah McMeen. The Highland Cavaliers managed three hits in the bottom of the first, but couldn't convert, ending the inning at 2–0 in favor of the Railsplitters.
- In the third inning, the Railsplitters added to their lead as Reagan's single up the middle drove in two more runs, making it 4–0. Despite a single by Taylor Noe, the Cavs were unable to score, concluding the inning with the same score.
- A pivotal moment for the Cavaliers occurred in the fourth inning. Taylor Clay reached second on a dropped fly ball, setting the stage for Madison Anglin to reach on another error, allowing Clay to score and cut the deficit to 4–1.
- Lincoln Memorial responded in the fifth with two more runs. A double from McMeen and a single from Reagan extended its lead to 6–1.
- In the final innings, neither team managed to change the scoreboard. The game concluded with Lincoln Memorial securing a 6–1 victory over the Cavs.
- Angelina Branch pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits while striking out two batters. She threw a total of 82 pitches, 53 of which were strikes, and walked one batter. Bayleigh Allison took over on the mound for 3 1/3 innings, giving up two earned runs on four hits. Allison struck out four batters and issued one walk, throwing 65 pitches with 39 strikes.
- Adyson Gibson collected two hits in the game, contributing significantly to the team's offensive efforts. Clay scored one run and added a hit while also drawing a walk, enhancing her on-base presence. Anglin contributed an RBI, providing a crucial run for the team. On the mound, Allison pitched 3 1/3 innings with four strikeouts, limiting the opposing team's scoring chances.

GAME TWO -- LMU 6, UVA Wise 5
- In the first inning, Adyson Gibson singled to second base, followed by Kaylynn Baker's double to right center, which allowed Gibson to score. Lindsey Polan then hit a sacrifice fly, driving in Baker, concluding the inning with a 2–1 lead for the Highland Cavaliers.
- In the third inning, after the Railsplitters tied the game with a home run, Gibson and Taylor Clay both singled, setting up Baker to score on a single by Kennedy Miller. The inning ended with UVA Wise leading 3–2.
- In the fifth inning, Baker doubled down the right field line and Polan hit a home run, bringing in two runs. This gave the Cavs a 5–4 advantage by the end of the inning.
- The sixth inning saw Lincoln Memorial regain the lead with two runs, making the score 6–5 in its favor. Despite efforts in the seventh, the Highland Cavaliers could not add to their score, resulting in a final score of 6–5 in favor of the Railsplitters.
- Olivia Shockley delivered a complete game performance, pitching 7 innings for UVA Wise. Over the course of the game, she allowed 10 hits and 6 earned runs while striking out 5 batters. Shockley threw a total of 92 pitches, 66 of which were strikes, and issued 2 walks. Despite her efforts, Shockley's record moved to 8-6 with the loss.
- Kaylynn Baker scored three runs and added two doubles, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Lindsey Polan recorded three RBIs and hit a home run, showcasing her power at the plate. Adyson Gibson collected two hits and scored a run, providing a consistent presence at the top of the lineup.

UP NEXT
The team will hit the road for the final time in the regular season as they travel to Catawba this Saturday for a SAC doubleheader. First pitch in Salisbury, North Carolina, is set for 1 p.m.
