WISE – The UVA Wise lacrosse team had a solid defensive effort against #12 Wingate but were unable to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the 12-3 loss to the Bulldogs Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first quarter opened with Wingate gaining an early advantage through a goal by Julia Garvin, assisted by Amelia Benner, at 13:10. Deirdre Jones extended the Bulldogs' lead with a free-position goal at the 7:55 mark. The Cavs responded with
Caitlyn Schultz scoring a goal, assisted by
Issie Brown, narrowing the gap to 2–1 at 4:46. However, Wingate's Amelia Benner, assisted by Lauryn Knutson, restored the two-goal lead shortly after at 4:11. The quarter concluded with the Bulldogs leading 3–1.
- Wingate seized momentum early in the second quarter, capitalizing on a free position shot as Julia Garvin scored at 12:12 to extend the lead. The visitors continued their offensive push with Lauryn Knutson finding the net at 8:21, assisted by Garvin. The Bulldogs' aggressive play resulted in a series of goals, with Bree Solero, Deirdre Jones, and Garvin each contributing to the scoreboard, pushing the lead to 8–1. Despite being down a player, the Highland Cavaliers ended the quarter with
Caitlyn Schultz scoring at 00:08, assisted by
Noley Hiller, narrowing the deficit to 8–2 at the half.
- Wingate took control in the third quarter, with Deirdre Jones scoring twice to increase its lead. Jones first found the net at 8:56 with a free position shot, capitalizing on a free position opportunity. She later added another goal at 5:17. Despite several attempts by the Cavaliers, including a shot by
Caitlyn Schultz at 7:02, Wingate's defense, led by saves from Saskia Aunger, kept the home team scoreless in the quarter.
Addie Donalson recorded multiple saves for the Highland Cavaliers, including stopping a shot from Madison Slayton in the final seconds. The quarter ended with the Bulldogs leading 10–2.

Noley Hiller struck first in the fourth quarter, scoring a goal at 11:22 after recovering her own rebound. Wingate responded effectively, with Livy Rondeau scoring twice, including a player-down goal at 3:52, assisted by Madison Slayton. Despite several clear attempts and shots on goal, the Cavs struggled to convert, with standout saves from Wingate's Saskia Aunger keeping the home team at bay.
Addie Donalson of the Cavaliers also made key saves, but ultimately Wingate maintained control, securing a 12–3 victory.
