Coker Sweeps Season Baseball Series

WISE – Coker captured the South Atlantic Conference season series over UVA Wise as they won the opener on Friday and swept Saturday's doubleheader.

GAME ONE – Coker 6, UVA Wise 1
- In the second inning, Coker took the lead when Fabio Marquez hit a two-run homer to left field, scoring Luke Peterson and putting the Cobras ahead 2-0.
- Coker added another run in the seventh inning. Rocco Wojcik scored on a single to center field by Gavin Johnson, increasing their lead to 3-0.
- In the ninth inning, the Cobras widened the gap with three more runs. Dimitri Sabino's RBI single and a series of fielding errors allowed Coker to extend their lead to 6-0.
- The Highland Cavaliers managed to get on the board in the bottom of the ninth. Luke Johnson walked and later scored on a double by Joshua Morgan down the right field line, ending the game with a final score of 6-1 in favor of the Cobras.
- Eli Reece pitched 6 innings, allowing 9 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 4. Reece issued 3 walks and hit 2 batters, ending with a WHIP of 2.00. Anthony Michaelis relieved Reece, throwing 3 innings and conceding 2 hits and 1 earned run with 1 strikeout. Michaelis induced 7 groundouts and recorded a WHIP of 1.33 over his appearance.
Joshua Morgan contributed with a double and an RBI. Morgan Miller displayed defensive reliability with nine assists, leading the team from his shortstop position.

GAME TWO – Coker 17, UVA Wise 9
- UVA Wise began the game with a strong start as Joshua Morgan homered to left field, bringing home Jake Smith and Derrick Hall, giving the team a 3-2 lead after the first inning.
- In the second inning, the Cavs' Luke Johnson grounded out but managed to bring Andrew Hardy home, narrowing the gap to 5-4 in favor of Coker by the end of the inning.
- The fifth inning saw Smith hit a solo home run to right field, tightening the scoreline to 9-5 with Coker leading.
- In the seventh inning, Morgan hit his second home run of the game, a three-run shot, scoring Smith and Hall, which brought the Highland Cavaliers closer at 9-8.
- The Cavs added a final run in the ninth inning when Hall scored on a groundout by Morgan, but Coker's lead was too much to overcome.
- Mason McAlarnis started the game for the Cavs, pitching 2 innings and allowing 5 earned runs on 5 hits with 2 walks and 2 hit batters, resulting in a loss. Andrew Binns-Loveman followed with 1 2/3 innings, surrendering 3 earned runs on 3 hits while walking 2, and threw 2 wild pitches. Ean Marria provided stability with 3 1/3 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and striking out 2, while inducing a double play and picking off a runner. Ryan Whitson struggled in relief, giving up 6 earned runs on 4 hits and 3 walks in just 1/3 inning. Sawyer Patrick pitched 1 inning, allowing 1 earned run on 2 hits, while Jake DeNeef closed the game with 2/3 inning of hitless pitching, recording 1 strikeout.
- Morgan delivered a standout performance with two home runs and six RBIs, contributing significantly to the team's offensive output. Hall showcased his ability to get on base, scoring three runs and adding two hits, including a double. Smith made a strong impact with a home run, scoring three times and recording one RBI.

GAME THREE – Coker 10, UVA Wise 8
- UVA Wise tallied a seven-run rally in the fourth inning, but it was not enough to overcome Coker's early scoring surge.
- The Cavs took an early lead in the first inning when Derrick Hall doubled to right center and later scored on a fielding error by the third baseman, making it 1-0. Coker responded in the third inning, capitalizing on a series of hits and errors to score seven runs, highlighted by Gavin Johnson's two-RBI single up the middle. By the end of the inning, the Cobras led 7-1.
- In the fourth inning, Coker added three more runs, extending its lead to 10-1. The Cavaliers answered with a strong offensive performance in the bottom of the inning. Jacob Boyle's two-RBI double initiated the scoring, followed by a bases-loaded walk and Dane Frellick's grand slam, which brought the score to 10-8.
- The remaining innings saw no further scoring from either team, securing a 10-8 victory for the Cobras.
- Gabe Gowder opened on the mound for the Highland Cavaliers, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing 7 runs on 7 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3. Julius Sellars provided brief relief, throwing 0 1/3 innings and conceding 1 hit and 1 walk. Jack Wuerdeman also pitched 0 1/3 innings, giving up 3 runs on 3 hits and 2 walks. Hunter Garrett delivered 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief, striking out 2 and allowing just 1 hit and 1 walk. Ryan Whitson closed out with 2 innings, surrendering 1 hit and 1 walk, while striking out 1 and maintaining a clean sheet.
- Frellick made a significant impact by hitting a home run, driving in four runs, and scoring once. Boyle contributed with a double, driving in two runs and scoring once himself. Hall added to the offensive efforts with a double, a run batted in, and scored twice.

The Cavs will host Ferrum in a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon with the first pitch in game one set for 2 p.m.
