Highland Cavalier Second-Half Comeback Effort Falls Short

WISE – After LMU took the 54-31 half time lead on the back of almost 70 percent shooting from the field and nine three-pointers in the first half, the Highland Cavaliers mounted a furious comeback in the second half that fell short as the Railsplitters escaped the Prior Center with the 87-79 win.

The Cavs are currently ranked fifth in the latest NCAA Southeast Region Poll, which came out earlier today.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP
Result: UVA Wise 79, Lincoln Memorial 87
Records: UVA Wise (20-9, 13-8 SAC); LMU (17-10, 13-8 SAC)
Location: Wise, VA | Prior Convocation Center

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The game commenced with Evan Ramsey giving the Highland Cavaliers an early edge by sinking two free throws. Lincoln Memorial quickly responded, with Walter Campbell and EJ Smith combining for a three-pointer and subsequent layup to establish a 5-2 lead. The visiting team expanded its lead to 12-6 with a three-pointer from Jayden Spearman at the 15:12 mark. UVA Wise struggled to keep pace, despite a notable three-point shot from Kolier Pruett narrowing the gap to 19-14. Lincoln Memorial had one of their best offensive halves in program history, led by Smith and Campbell, as they hit nine three-pointers (most heavily contested) and shot almost 70 percent from the field and behind the arc. They used that hot shooting to go out to a 54-31 advantage by the end of the half.
- The second half was marked by a strong offensive display from the Cavs, as they outscored the Railsplitters 48-33 for the half. Yoro Diallo contributed significantly with multiple layups, including a fast-break dunk at 12:23. Patrick Shelley added to the scoring with a three-pointer at 18:00 and a fast-break layup at 10:03. Lincoln Memorial's Walter Campbell and Jayden Spearman responded with three-pointers, but the Cavs used their size advantage in the paint to cut into the LMU lead, but they could get no closer than seven points down the stretch.
