WISE – The UVA Wise baseball team split a mid-week doubleheader with Bluefield State as the Big Blues took the first game 13-8 and the Highland Cavaliers won game two with a walk-off hit.

GAME ONE – Bluefield State 13, UVA Wise 8
- In the first game, Bluefield State took an early lead in the first inning, capitalizing on a throwing error to score three unearned runs on Jack Sams' home run. This put the Blues ahead 3-0 after the first inning. The Blues extended their lead with three more runs in the second inning. Blake Mckinney scored on a groundout, followed by a two-RBI double from Angel Martinez, which brought the score to 6-0.
- The Cavaliers responded in the bottom of the third inning.
Morgan Miller singled, and later scored on a fielding error, followed by
Carter Babb's RBI single that brought home another run, closing the gap to 9-2 after three innings. The Blues added three more runs in the fourth inning, including two on a single by James Germosen and another run on a wild pitch, making it 12-2.
- In the fifth inning, the Cavs added a run when
Jaden Ruehling scored on
Jacob Boyle's single, but Bluefield State's Curtis Ball scored on a double by Jack Sams, keeping the lead at 13-3. The Highland Cavaliers gained momentum in the sixth inning with Miller scoring on Ruehling's single, bringing the score to 13-4.
- A rally by UVA Wise in the seventh inning produced four runs.
Derrick Hall and Ruehling each contributed RBI singles, and
Tyler Jones added another RBI hit, cutting the deficit to 13-8. The final score was Bluefield State 13, UVA Wise 8.

Tyler Gorbett pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing six runs on four hits, including one home run, while striking out none and walking three. Jack Wuerdeman faced seven batters in 2/3 of an inning, giving up three runs on one hit and issuing two walks with three hit-by-pitches.
Braden Hamilton pitched one inning, allowed three runs on three hits, walked two, and struck out one batter.
Caden Harris delivered 3 2/3 innings of relief, surrendering one earned run on two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Derrick Hall contributed significantly by scoring two runs and driving in two RBIs.
Jaden Ruehling added two hits and two RBIs while drawing two walks.
Tyler Jones completed the game with one hit and two RBIs, demonstrating his capability with runners on base.
Morgan Miller led the team with three hits, including a double, while also scoring three runs.
GAME TWO – UVA Wise 13, Bluefield State 12
- In the second game, UVA Wise tallied 14 hits and one home run, while Bluefield State connected for 10 hits and three home runs. UVA Wise and Bluefield State both scored two runs in the first inning.
Joshua Morgan and
Dane Frellick set the stage for UVA Wise with singles, and
Derrick Hall's double down the left field line brought both runners home, making it 2-2 after one inning.
- In the second inning, Bluefield State took a 6-2 lead with a solo homer from James Germosen and a two-run homer by Nate Rollins. UVA Wise responded with three runs. Morgan's single scored
Andrew Hardy. Later, a throwing error allowed Hardy and
Hayden Stasuk to score, cutting the deficit to 6-5 through two innings.
- UVA Wise regained the lead in the third inning.
Jake Smith's three-run homer to left field, following a single and a walk, put UVA Wise ahead 8-6 after three innings.
- In the fifth inning, Bluefield State added three runs, but UVA Wise countered with four of its own. Frellick and Hall each contributed RBI singles, while Stasuk was hit by a pitch, allowing another run to score, extending the lead to 12-9.
- Bluefield State scored two runs in the sixth inning, narrowing the gap to 12-11. UVA Wise maintained its lead despite not scoring. In the seventh inning, Bluefield State's Kevin Rodriguez hit a solo home run, but UVA Wise's Caden Babb's pinch-hit RBI single brought home Hall, sealing the narrow victory with a final score of 13-12.

Logan Delph started the game, allowing six earned runs on four hits, including two home runs, over 1 1/3 innings.
Ean Marria provided a solid relief effort, pitching 3 1/3 innings with three strikeouts and giving up just one hit, though he allowed three earned runs.
Julius Sellars and
Sawyer Patrick each contributed shorter appearances, with Patrick allowing one earned run over one inning.
Hunter Garrett and
Andrew Binns-Loveman combined to complete the pitching duties, with Binns-Loveman earning a win in his brief 1/3 inning outing without allowing any runs.
- Smith recorded two hits and drove in three runs, including a home run, while also scoring twice. Morgan contributed by scoring three runs and reaching base with two hits and two walks. Frellick added four hits, scoring twice and driving in one run, ending with an OPS of 2.000. Knight was hitless but managed to bring in three runs through a hit-by-pitch and reaching on an error.
