LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM – Former UVA Wise volleyball student-athlete
Kaylee Scarce is not finished with the sport yet. The 2025 graduate will not only work on a postgraduate degree, but will also play the sport she loves for at least one more season in the United Kingdom courtesy of Play Overseas.
The Dry Fork, Virginia, native will attend a university in the U.K. and will not only play for that school's team but also play for a club team within the U.K. National League System. And she will earn a master's degree as well.
Scarce completed her NCAA eligibility last Fall and has left her mark on the UVA Wise volleyball program. She was a mainstay on the Dean's List and she is also the program's only student-athlete to earn Academic All-District honors multiple times. On the court she was amongst the South Atlantic Conference leaders in kills, attacks, and points per set. She finished her career with 862 kills; 53 aces; 80 total blocks; and 1,004 digs, passing the 1,000 dig mark during the final match of her career. Rankings-wise she finished seventh in kills, sixth in attacks (3,048), and eighth in digs.
When asked about the opportunity, Scarce said, "It honestly feels unreal… in the best way. I'm super excited (and maybe a little nervous) to take this next step. Volleyball has been such a huge part of my life, and now it's literally taking me across the world. I knew I wasn't done playing after this year I love it too much. This gives me the chance to keep going, experience new cultures, meet new people, and grow on and off the court. Like… a dream come true."
"UVA Wise Volleyball prepared me in so many ways. I got the chance to play in Italy two summers ago through the (Play Overseas) program, and that experience honestly opened my eyes to what's possible. Over the past four years, I've grown a ton not just as a player, but as a person. I've learned how to handle pressure, how to bounce back from tough games, and how to be the kind of teammate who shows up every day, brings energy, and supports the people around me. It taught me that success isn't just stats, it's showing up and caring about the team just as much as yourself."
Over recent years, the U.K. has become a popular destination for former student-athletes as different eligibility rules permit students to compete alongside their graduate education. Master's degrees in the U.K. take just 12 months to complete, and there are tuition and scholarship benefits.
